The Superior General of the Society of Christian Doctrine (MUSEUM), Victor Delicata, resigned this morning after a quarter century at the helm. He is 82 years old.

Before becoming Superior General, he had been superior of the Balzan branch of the society and became assistant to his predecessor Cikku Saliba in 1979.

Director of J. Delicata & Sons, Mr Delicata was was elected superior general in June 1983. He opened MUSEUM branches in San Gwann, Mellieha, Burmarrad, the Birkirkara Oratory, St Andrews and Mgarr and worked hard to oepn branches in Sudan, London, Kenya, Albania and Peru. But the highlight of his term was the canonisation of Dun Gorg Preca in 2007.

Mr Delicata resigned during the General Chapter of the MUSEUM society, which was addressed by Archbishop Cremona yesterday. The chapter is today voting to elect Mr Delicata's successor.
