Luciano Micallef will exhibit a collection of 35 works at Gallery 5, his personal gallery, in San Pawl tat-Tar©a, Naxxar.

Entitled Transitions, this collection is a follow-up of his last exhibition, Alchemy, held four years ago.

In his latest display, which will run from June 4 to 18, Mr Micallef reveals his concern with change and process, as the title clearly indicates. His previous exhibitions dealt with the viewer being reflected in the works and his role as interpreter.

Mr Micallef has always insisted that art for him is a means of revealing the complexities of life, which are often camouflaged in our fast rhythm that has been imposed upon us. Art, perhaps, slows us down, and consequently helps us interrogate and discuss. Thus, art also creates the opportunity to bridge with others and share the experiences revealed.

The artist's passion for abstract painting has also to do with another conviction. We are constantly hoarding objects, we have become obsessed with possessing; for a change, abstract painting deals with a world deprived of objects, with no parameters, no definitions no perspectives, no gravity. Since the viewer is the master, he or she has to create meaning for all this, and the sole references are found within oneself.

An informative catalogue with a forward by Michael Mumford accompanies the exhibition. Viewing times are Mondays to Saturdays between 4 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. or by appointment.

Located at F. W. Ryan Street, San Pawl Tat-Targa, Gallery 5 was inaugurated in 1996.
