Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna celebrated mass on the evening of October 6 to mark the start of the pastoral work of Fr Claudio Borg, a Dominican, as parish priest of Jesus of Nazareth parish church, Sliema.

Fr Claudio Borg was born on August 22, 1963, and grew up in the parish of Sacro Cuor, Sliema. He studied philosophy at the University of Malta and theology at the University of Bologna in Italy.

His religious formation began in 1986 at the Convent of Our Lady of the Grotto in Rabat, Malta. He began his novitiate in September 1988 and four years later, he received the Solemn Profession in the Dominican Order. He was ordained a priest by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca on July 8, 1994.

On returning from Italy, Fr Claudio began pastoral work in the parish of St Dominic, Valletta. He also served in the parish of St Dominic in Vittoriosa and as a priest of the Dominican community in Guarda­mangia. He spent eight years teaching religion and media studies at St Albert the Great College in Valletta and was assistant head of the same school.

The parish of Jesus of Nazareth in Sliema has a population of about 2,900.
