New regulations to empower the Planning Authority and the Environment Authority to act for the regeneration of derelict areas if the owners fail to do so, were published in draft form for public consultation today. areas.

"The proposed regulations provide the legal framework to enable the proactive regeneration of areas which become the victim of illegal dumping or reclamation and have remained in a derelict state for a period of time," the Planning Authority said. 

The new law will enable the authorities to carry out habitat restoration projects in such areas, including afforestation.
