A British Airways flight bound for Dusseldorf, Germany flew to Edinburgh in Scotland by mistake.
BREAKING: British Airways is investigating after today's BA CityFlyer #BA3271 London City to Dusseldorf (operated by WDL BAe146-200 D-AMGL) flew to Edinburgh instead. The flight plan was filed for EDI, not DUS. The aircraft has since re-positioned to DUS.https://t.co/Rq2QcfyABQ pic.twitter.com/hPoFaru0oT— Airport Webcams (@AirportWebcams) March 25, 2019
It said the wrong flight paperwork was submitted before take-off from London and air traffic control therefore allowed the flight to take that route.
The passengers realised they were in the wrong country when a "Welcome to Edinburgh" announcement was made.
The plane later flew on to Germany.
The flight was operated by German firm WDL Aviation for BA as part of a leasing deal.
British Airways has launched an investigation and apologised to passengers.
