In May 1990, Pope John Paul II paid his first visit to our shores. To commemorate this event, a nice, modern monument was erected in Attard (he lived there for three days) just opposite St Catherine's Hospital on the way to Ta' Qali coming from Attard.

On his demise last Saturday a neighbour of mine put some flowers and lit a few candles beneath this monument as a sign of respect. I did the same some time later. My appeal, by means of this letter, is for the people of Attard and others of goodwill to make a nice gesture by lighting a candle and maybe put some flowers on this monument.

After all, the greatest spiritual leader of the 20th century deserves it.
