Serbia and Montenegro manager Ilija Petkovic was confident his side could win their World Cup qualifying group after their 1-1 draw against Spain.

The result left the Serbs top of Group Seven, two points clear of Spain with two matches to play.

"We would be very stupid not to take advantage of this excellent result and win the group," Petkovic told Belgrade media.

"We are in a great position but the job is not done yet and we must stay focused.

"The Spaniards have a great team and we were lucky to be only a goal down at half-time. The introduction of Nikola Zigic in the second half swung the game in our favour," he told Sportski Zurnal.

The Serbs, under pressure in the first half, fell behind to a Raul header before Zigic and Dejan Stankovic set up the equaliser for Mateja Kezman, who turned in a low cross.

Loud jeers every time Kezman touched the ball after the goal suggest that the striker may have lost a few fans at the Calderon Stadium, the home of his club Atletico Madrid after a June move from Chelsea.
