Francesco Pizzo (Meca Team) and Iona Sewell (Squadra Donne UK) are the winners of the 2010 Tour ta' Malta. A third-place finish in yesterday's last competitive stage in Xagħra, Gozo, was sufficient for both riders to top the timesheets.

Italian cyclists again dominated stage with Francesco Guccione (Ballatore), last year's Tour winner, hanging on to his early lead despite being strongly challenged by other riders in the final stages.

Guccione increased his gap towards the end of the race to finish in one hour 41 minutes and 6 seconds. Enzo Buccheri (Cicli Buccheri), Friday's winner at San Martin, and Pizzo finished second and third respectively.

Pizzo, who won Thursday's opening time-trial, was declared overall winner with an aggregate time of 4 hours 55 minutes and 24 seconds.

The best-Maltese-rider accolade in this year's Tour ta' Malta went to Melita's Maurice Formosa (5:04:07).

The ladies' race yesterday saw two Dutch riders, Roos van den Bos and Claudia Koster, from the Noord Holland team, set the pace with overall leader Sewell (Squadra Donne UK) intent on staying in the leading group to protect her overall lead.

Van den Bos claimed yesterday's stage in 1 hour 13 minutes and 49 seconds, with Koster taking second place in 1 hour 14 minutes and 44 seconds. Sewell was third, a full minute behind Van den Bos, and five seconds behind Koster.

Sewell secured top spot in the overall classification with an aggregate time of 4 hours 7 minutes and 48 seconds.

Marie Claire Aquilina (Greens Cycling Club) had the best overall time (4:20:08) among the Maltese participants in the women's field.

The Tour ta' Malta wraps up this morning with a one-hour fun bike ride that starts and finishes in Sliema.
