The Nationalist Party is standing by shadow health minister Stephen Spiteri despite media reports that he was selling medical certificates to patients without even examining them.
A spokesman for the party told Times of Malta that Dr Spiteri, a general practitioner, had denied any wrongdoing.
“Dr Spiteri confirmed that he has been in the medical profession for some 25 years and has always upheld the highest standards,” the spokesman said.
Lovin Malta reported yesterday evening that a Pharmacy in Kalkara, where Dr Spiteri holds clinic, would provide the certificates, signed by Dr Spiteri for just €5.
Dr Spiteri has strongly denied the claims.
