I would like to inform Philip DeMarco (Poetry On Perspex, May 10) that the text displayed on most bus shelters is an extract from Oliver Friggieri's poem Jekk which was originally published in his lauded anthology Mal-Fanal Hemm Harstek Tixghel. It is a pity that the poem only figures in a fragmentary and discontinuous form. It is also a pity that it is the only text to feature in such places.
How about displaying the full text of other Maltese poems penned by some of our finest authors? Each bus shelter could actually have its own particular text. Reading literature while idly waiting for the bus would be a wonderful idea, if not a cultural novelty.
