Perhaps Transport Malta should consider banning karozzin drivers from working their horses between noon and 4pm in the hot summer months.
Horses are collapsing on the roads too frequently indicating that the heat and the load of carrying five adults, at times, is too much.
We all seem to have forgotten that other species, including horses, are sentient beings who feel and suffer pain as we do. The authorities would do well to inform themselves about the outrage and shock evident on the social media after learning about these events.
Something sensible must be done and the problem solved. We must not let ourselves descend into a culture indifferent to the suffering of animals. Consider this: it’s horses today and us tomorrow.
