The humble Maltese potato had the social networking sites in a tizzy this morning with a YouTube video that went viral overnight.

The video, which is produced by Jansen Dongen and which carries the Air Malta logo at the end, features a young Maltese farmer explaining the various merits of the Maltese potato.

The resulting interview, which is carried out in English, attracted a strong response, with opposing comments varying from praise for the down-to-earth and honest nature of the interview to derision at the interviewee’s choice of vocabulary.

Others, however, lauded the young farmer's passion and dedication, saying that if only more Maltese showed this kind of enthusiasm, our country would be a lot more successful.
