A 34-year-old man from Żejtun died today when he fell a height of several metres down a cliff onto the rocks at Xgħajra.

The incident happened at around noon as the man, Reuben Azzopardi, was riding a quad bike with friends, including his brother in the area known as il-Ġolf tat-Tafal.

The man, a father of a three-year-old, was lifted from the scene near the water's edge by an Armed Forces of Malta helicopter in difficult windy conditions.

A magisterial inquiry is under way. The victim is a kickboxing athlete who competed in several overseas competitions in 15 years.
