Malta's top swimmers Angela Galea and Neil Agius set up new national records in the 200m butterfly and 1,500m freestyle respectively.

Competing in the Olympic 50 metre pool in Luxembourg yesterday evening, Galea clocked 2:21.50 to shave 19 hundreths of a second off her own best set up in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester last year.

For 16-year-old Agius, this was the first national record he broke. His time was 17:21.17 to clip 4.08 seconds off Kenny D'Ugo's six-year-old mark. The Euro Meet attracted several swimmers from different European countries.

Commenting on these times Dr Michael Gialanze, chairman of ASA Swimming Board, said that these results are excellent considering they were registered so early in the year.
