Many have heard of the Liberty Bell, an iconic symbol of American Independence, but few know that one of those who cast it, Giovanni Pace hailed from Cospicua.
Backed by the Cospicua (Bormla) Heritage Society, Mario Attard, who has been carrying out research about Cospicua street names since the beginning of the 1990s, is looking for information on where Giovanni Pace's birth certificate may be.
Pace, a bell founder, migrated to the US in the 18th century and settled down in Philadelphia. He became known as John Pass. His name is inscribed on the bell, proclaiming liberty "throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof", taken from Leviticus 25, verse 10.
