A rock-cut passage with religious carvings was unearthed by Infrastructure Malta on Wednesday while rebuilding a street in Pietà.

The agency announced the find in a tweet.

It said the passage could possibly be part of a World War Two air-raid shelter.

Infrastructure Malta is working with the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage to study the find and identify the best methods to preserve it.
