The Scout Association of Malta recently marked the annual Founder's Day at the Scouts Island Headquarters in Floriana.

Distinguished guests included President Eddie Fenech Adami and Mrs Fenech Adami, Tunisian Ambassador Mohammed Mezgheani, Deputy British High Commissioner Janet Hancock, Mr Jeff Patterson from the American Embassy, and Mr El-Sade Ali El-Sade from the Libyan Cultural Centre.

During the course of the evening, a film about the early days of scouting and the life of the movement's founder was shown. Awards and decorations were also presented to uniformed and non-uniformed members.

Founder's Day is celebrated on February 22 to commemorate Lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden Powell's birthday.

Scouting started in the UK in 1907 and was introduced to Malta a year later, making the Scout Association of Malta one of the longest established in the world. Today's members number well over 28 million in 216 countries and territories.
