Seven companies have teamed up to install a Seabin at Senglea, following on from the success of the first of the waste collectors put down at Sa Maison.
The Von der Heyden Group, Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour, Hammett’s Collection, The Grand Harbour Marina, Palumbo, Bradbury Yacht Concierge Services and S&D Yachts collaborated with Strand Marine and e-NGO Żibel.
The device can filter 25,000 litres of seawater per hour and scoop up 1.5kg of floating debris per day including harmful microplastics up to 2mm small.
The 3 Cities Marina Seabin is the second to be installed after the one at the Yacht Marina in Sa Maison and will be maintained with the help of the local Senglea Regatta Club.
The idea was developed in Australia with the help of crowdfunding. Seabins have already made a huge difference to harbours in places such as Gibraltar, Singapore, Ireland, Italy and the UK.
