A group of 14 members from the Shotokan Karate School of Malta (SKSM) have just returned from a competition in London. They achieved good results individually and crowned their performance with a first placing overall for teams.

In all, there were 550 martial artists who represented 36 organisations from 14 countries. The SKSM medal haul comprised eight gold, nine silver and eight bronze. Coach Chris Galea received the overall winners trophy on behalf of SKSM.

Among the medal winners in Kata and Kumite were Luke Cassar, Dominic Fenech, Cedric Gauci, Rachel Micallef and M. Sylvana Gauci. David Gauci and Kristabel Borg also left a very good impression in Intermediates.

Steve Polidano, Anthony Smith, Michael John Grima and Lucienne Galea were prominent for SKSM in senior categories.

In team events, the junior side, consisting of Dalton Aquilina, Andrew Galea and Isaac Degabriele, were totally focused and claimed the top honours in a competition involving 12 other teams. The senior side were runners-up.
