Appreciation - Mgr Emanuel Agius
Mr Aldo Fenech writes from Gzira:
Gzira parish church was packed for Mgr Emanuel Agius's funeral on the morning of October 21.
"Dun Wally", as he was affectionately known, died suddenly on the evening of October 18 while strolling along Gzira front, and his demise has not only created a huge gap in the parish pastoral needs, but has left the entire community bereft of one of its saintly sons.
Dun Wally was a shining example of faith in Christ, his Saviour and model, and all throughout his 44 years as priest, his gentle heart was always overflowing with the love that Jesus has for us all. He had a word of counsel for everyone, and his engaging smile and deep husky voice were overwhelmingly endearing. His enthusiasm for his vocation was without bounds and even lately, when his health was not that of bygone days, he still served the Lord with youthful fire, which was his hallmark all throughout his ministry.
Charity, humility and self-sacrifice are the inestimable treasures that he took with him to heaven, and his reward is indeed a hundredfold. It was my privilege to be one of his best friends, and I thank God immeasurably for giving me such an undeserved grace.
I end by citing one of his greatest joys he once confided to me: "My true happiness is when I am in confessional, helping, encouraging, consoling and strengthening those who seek refuge in God's loving forgiveness" - a semblance to the Curé d'Ars, maybe.
On behalf of all Gzira parishioners, I deeply thank the Lord for giving our community the unique virtuous gift of Dun Wally, who although departed, will be in our hearts forever. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

The funny beautiful lady
That means so much to me
May be gone from the land of the living
But with me she will always be
Because my memory holds her dearly
And my pen recalls her ways
And most of all I love her
A love that always stays
It stays inside my memory
And is often on my mind
Because a lady like my grandma
Is rare and hard to find.

PICCININO - PATRICIA. In memory of a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on the 11th year of her demise, 30.10.95.
You can see it in their eyes
In tender hugs and long good-byes,
A love that only mums and daughters know.
You can see it in their smiles,
Through passing years and changing styles,
A friendship that continually seems to grow.
You can see it in their lives,
The joy each one of them derives,
In just knowing that the other one is there...
To care and to understand,
Lend an ear or hold a hand,
And to celebrate the memories they share.
Once upon a memory
Someone wiped away a tear
Held me close to loved me
Thank you, Mother dear.
Your daughters Theresa, Mary-Rose and Connie and their respective families.
