The Spanish language film The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos), a 2009 crime drama film directed by Juan José Campanella, will be screened tomorrow at 7.30pm at Spazju Kreattiv cinema. Attendance is free, but booking is required.

The plot revolves around a judiciary employee, Benjamín Espósito (Ricardo Darín) and  judge Irene Menéndez-Hastings (Soledad Villamil), in 1974, who become obsessed investigating the case of the brutal rape and murder of Liliana Coloto, a beautiful woman recently married to Ricardo Morales, while also following them 25 years later reminiscing over the case and unearthing the buried romance between them.

Benjamin observed that Coloto was featured in many pictures taken by a man named Isidoro Gómez, making him the prime suspect. Meanwhile,  tension increases between Benjamín and Irene, but he does not understand the signs in her eyes. Twenty-five years later, he is still haunted by his love for Irene and for the unsatisfactory resolution of the Morales case.

The film received an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards, and their Spanish equivalent, the Goya Award for Best Spanish Language Foreign Film.
