The official 2003/04 season of the Malta Handball Association will get underway today when the two Super Cup matches are played at the University Sports Complex.
This will also mark the start of the ninth successive MHA season, undoubtedly one of the most hectic for the organisation as it will also involve the running of the EHF Challenge Trophy next December. Six national teams, including Malta, will be taking part.
In the men's Super Cup, Aloysians Prominent, who won the quadruple crown last year, will be facing league runners-up La Salle Nespak.
Aloysians will be without Jacques Friggieri, currently playing for French side ESMGO.
Although Aloysians, under the guidance of player/coach Milos Stanislejevic, will start as favourites, Alan Grima's La Salle will be doing their utmost to start the season on a right footing following a rather dismal campaign last season.
The ladies' Super Cup will feature Kavallieri and Aloysians, last season's KO winners.
Aloysians have made tremendous improvement. Their aim this season should be to win the championship for the first time in their history.
Kavallieri will seek to make amends for last year's failure to land a major honour. Champions Wild Angels will not defend their title.
Following the Super Cup matches, the handball competitions will continue with the MHA Cup for both men and women next weekend.
