The Malta rugby national team completed their commitments in the FIRA-AER Division 2A on a high after brushing aside Israel 30-9 at the Hibs Stadium.
The hosts started strongly as James Morris kicked in a penalty after two minutes and soon after Rory O’Brien pounced on an error by Israel’s Nathan Amos to storm clear and score the opening try of the match.
Morris scored the conversion before adding a penalty to put the hosts 10-0 ahead.
Israel’s reponse came from an Ori Abutbul penalty but the Maltese soon restored their 10-point lead courtesy of another Morris penalty.
The hosts again stormed out of the blocks on the restart and Anthony Harvey was at the heart of a driving maul to touch home for the team’s third try. Morris saw his attempted conversion hit the upright – 25-9.
Israel tried to force their way back into the match but the Maltese defence held firm and Mark Davey scored a late try to seal a 30-9 victory for the hosts.
