A 24-year-old man was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for two years for threatening a police inspector, a sergeant and six constables and seriously injuring one of the constables at the St Julians police station two years ago.

Jamal Badawi, of Greek origin, was also found guilty of assaulting a police sergeant and four constables, accusing them of committing a crime when he knew them to be innocent and lying under oath on May 17, 2003.

He was also found guilty of disobeying the police, causing over Lm50 damage to a police car, hurling hard objects, uttering obscene words in public while drunk and breaching the peace.

Police Inspector Martin Sammut prosecuted.

Lawyer Roberto Montalto appeared for Mr Badawi.
