Two Romanians were this morning given a suspended jail term after they admitted damaging two cars, assaulting two persons and slightly injuring a third after getting drunk at a Ħamrun bar early this morning.

They also admitted disobeying police orders, disturbing public peace and swearing in public.

The court heard that the defendants were also found to be working in Malta illegally.

Danut Vanaga, 21, told the court he was working as an electrician and a plasterer, whereas Mihalache-Victor Gheorgita, 27, said he was a plasterer.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke jailed the two men one for one year each, suspended for two years.

She also ordered them to pay for the damages amounting to €194 each within two days. The prosecution was led by police inspector Elliott Magro while lawyer Victor Bugeja was legal aid.
