Swimming - National Championships

The 2003 National Championships started yesterday at the National Pool Tal-Qroqq. A total of 65 swimmers from three clubs, Neptunes, Sirens and Sliema and the Swimming Promotion Unit entered these championships which were held under the scorching sun.

The 2003 National Championships started yesterday at the National Pool Tal-Qroqq. A total of 65 swimmers from three clubs, Neptunes, Sirens and Sliema and the Swimming Promotion Unit entered these championships which were held under the scorching sun. There were no national records but two swimmers who took part in last week's GSSE registered personal bests in events which are secondary to them. Neil Agius and Mark Buttigieg clocked 2:06.98 and 2:26.81 in the 200 free and the 200 IM respectively while Karl Scerri of Neptunes swam another personal best of 2:09.35 in the 200m free. The championships continue this morning starting at 8.30 a.m. with the evening session scheduled at 6 p.m.
