A 12-year-old girl reported missing on Thursday has been found alive and well in Gozo.

Mia O'Connell had left her home in Swieqi on Thursday at 4.30pm and was spotted in Marsa heading to Santa Lucija on Thursday evening.

She was reported missing by her parents and by Friday morning, a nationwide search for her was under way.

People mobilised on social media and offered to organise search parties in the Swieqi and Pembroke area, where the family lives. Photos of the missing girl were shared across Facebook as others pitched in with their suggestions.

Mia was finally found in Gozo late on Friday morning after being spotted on the Gozo Channel ferry. She has spoken to her parents, the Times of Malta can confirm.
