QORMI 1

Yankam 35

TARXIEN RAINBOWS 2

Nilsson 11, Wemmer 84

A great goal netted Jens Wemmer netted six minutes from time, eased Tarxien Rainbows’ relegation worries.

The result may sound a bit harsh on Qormi who played a good match.

As things turned out, it could have easily been a draw, but Wemmer’s moment of magic resolved the issue in his team’s favour

The German midfielder skipped superbly three players in a mazy run before shooting venomously into the bottom corner of the net beyond Jamie Azzopardi.

After some early unproductive skirmishes, Tarxien forged ahead in the 11th minute. Alex Nilsson’s shot from the edge of the box took a deflection off Davide Mansi and looped over Qormi keeper Jamie Azzopardi before the ball somehow made it to the net despite Alan Abela’s frantic attempt to clear the ball of the line.

The Rainbows’ initial pressure limited Qormi’s effort to hopeful breakaways.

Qormi had struggled to make much of an attacking impact but they levelled against the run of play on 35 minutes. A Freud Gnindokponou cross from the right found Yannick Yankam running in to thump diagonally home. A fine goal indeed.

Tarxien were reduced to ten men late on when Cruz Gill was expelled for a second bookable offence. A man short, the Rainbows were up against it and the expertise of Jens Wimmer prevailed with that brilliant late winner.

Qormi's Yannick Yankam was named BOV Player of the Match.
