There is another important art exhibition at The Contemporary Hall of The Museum Of Fine Arts in South Street, Valletta. This is the showing of work by the Maltese artist Anthony Catania. The exhibition is entitled: The Cave Of Centaurs and highlights this 38 year-old artist's interest in mythological subject matter.

There is an exhibition of work by Franco Navarro at the Heritage Malta head office this month. It opens tonight and is entitled: Etcetera, Perche La Minestra Si Fredda. It sounds intriguing and will continue until November 4.

The exhibition at the Kola Windmill, in Xaghra, Gozo: Malta's Mediterranean Trilogy Culture- Bread, Oil and Wine, continues throughout the month is on right up until December 30.

Getting away from the exhibition halls, between October 8 and October 11, there will be a four-day International Congress of Maritime Museums. Under the banner of Heritage Malta, this will convene in three different venues: The Mediterranean Conference Centre, The Malta Maritime Museum and The Inquisitor's Palace, in Vittoriosa. This event will welcome delegates from maritime museums all over the world.

Heritage Malta is also treading the boards... sort of, this month. They are presenting Joe Friggieri's play Caravaggio: L-Inkjesta, at The Manoel Theatre, for three nights from October 19 to 21. A preview of this event is carried on page two.

On October 16, there is an important and intriguing-sounding public lecture at the HM head office in Valletta. It will be given by artist, art historian and lecturer Mark Sagona and he will take as his subject: Emvin Cremona and the Rise of Modern Sensibilities in Maltese Sacred Art. This will commence at 6.30 p.m.

One of our most atmospheric and truly grand palaces has got to be The Inquisitor's Palace in Vittoriosa. And, since acquiring the administration of this national treasure Heritage Malta has staged several exhibitions and events in this splendid building. On October 28 the palace will once more come to life with an organised visit. In the course of the tour, the Inquisitor Fabio Chigi and other characters will be discussed and dissected, in order to explain Malta's Inquisition, Chigi's background and his Papacy, as Pope Alexander Vll and also the chequered and intriguing history of the Inquisitor's Palace itself.

Then finally, right at the end of this month, Prof. Paolo Giansiracusa, a lecturer in history of Art at the Università degli Studi e all' Accademia di Belle Arti di Catania, will deliver a lecture at the Heritage Malta HQ in Valletta. His talk will be entitled Ambientazioni e Identità pittoriche del Caravaggio nella Produzione Artistica Maltese and it will be delivered in Italian. It is scheduled to get under way at 6.30 p.m.

There is a very heavy bias this month at Heritage Malta towards the Caravaggio 400 celebrations, which is only to be expected and indeed applauded.
