On the weekend of September 27/28, 2008, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg visited the Maltese community in Toronto, Canada. They visited the Maltese parish, the Maltese clubs and organisations and met with Maltese emigrants at a reception held at the Royal York Hotel.

After 10 years since a Maltese Prime Minister last visited the Maltese community in Toronto, the people were very happy to see and meet Dr Gonzi and Dr Borg.

Anġlu Farrugia, deputy leader of the Malta Labour Party, had also visited the Maltese community.

Like other Maltese emigrants, I follow the Maltese news either on the Maltese TV stations or through the online version of newspapers. We were very anxious to watch or read any news regarding the Prime Minister's visit. To our surprise nothing at all was mentioned. I remember when Dr Gonzi went to Australia last year there was coverage on the Maltese TV stations and in the newspapers every day. Can I ask why there was no coverage at all of the Prime Minister's visit to Toronto? Are we Maltese emigrants in Toronto not Maltese like the ones in Australia?
