Venezia Lines, a wholly owned subsidiary of Virtù Ferries, have announced the introduction of a car/passenger service between the Italian port of Bari and Duress, Albania's major port.

The motor vessel San Gwann, which carries 427 passengers and 21 cars and is registered under the Malta flag, started operations on December 16.

The San Gwann, which is owned and managed by Virtù Ferries, was deployed on the company's established Malta-Sicily route until May when she was substituted by the M/V Maria Dolores.

The San Gwann was in the international news during the Israeli offensive in Lebanon, as one of the vessels chartered to rescue Australian and other nationals from the war zone in Lebanon. The San Gwann in fact performed a number of voyages between Beirut and Larnaca, Cyprus, carrying refugees.
