The enthusiasm of the World Cup took over Republic Street this morning, with thousands of people dancing to the World Cup theme song in what was rightly billed as Malta's biggest ever dance.

People turned up wearing the colours of their favourite teams, some even painting their faces accordingly, for the dance, organised jointly by the Akkaniti team and Xarabank.

The event started at about 10.30 a.m. and lasted for some two hours as those taking part - including many from dance schools - went through rehearsals before the final dance, which will be featured on Youtube.

Similar events are being held all over the world. The aim is to promote unity between nations.
