Thomas Smith Group has set up an insurance brokerage company to be able to expand its portfolio of services even further and tap into new areas of the insurance market.

Established in 1848, Thomas Smith Group is one of the oldest service companies in operation in Malta. For more than 60 years, the group has operated an insurance agency with various international principals, including their current one SIAT (Società Italiana Assicurazioni e Riassicurazioni) since 1995.

With two distinct roles in the insurance market, Thomas Smith is now in a much stronger position to service customers in all fields of insurance. The new company - Thomas Smith Insurance Brokers Ltd - will operate from newly acquired offices near Malta International Airport, in Luqa, while Thomas Smith Insurance Co. Ltd will remain at the group's head office in St Christopher Street, Valletta.

Two managers have been appointed to run the brokerage company. These are Chris Poulton for commercial and marine business and John Busuttil for personal insurance lines. Both have several years experience in the field and have taken up this new challenge with admirable determination. Denis Galea is managing director of the insurance brokerage company.

SIAT, the long established principals of Thomas Smith Insurance Agency, congratulated Thomas Smith for this new development and expressed their continued support. Since Malta joined the EU in 2004, the Malta market is being considered as domestic business by SIAT, bringing with it numerous advantages for the end client.

SIAT forms part of the Sai Fondiaria-La Milano Group of Companies, one of the largest players in insurance in the Italian domestic market. For more information visit
