Former General Workers' Union general secretary Tony Zarb is lined up as one of the recipients of the Gieh ir-Repubblika awards tomorrow.

The union frontman stepped down last October after leading the GWU for 16 years.

The 61-year-old led some of the GWU's most vociferous campaigns, including the Issa Daqshekk campaign.

The Gieh ir-Repubblika is the country's highest honour bestowed by the government of Malta.
