Two consecutive years of extreme warming in the Alps have obliterated 10 percent of Swiss glacier volume -- the same amount lost in three decades prior to 1990, a report said Thursday.

After shedding a record six percent of their volume in 2022, Switzerland's glaciers lost another four percent this year, "representing the second largest decline since measurements began", the Cryospheric Commission of the Swiss Academy of Sciences found in a new study.
