Two young men were yesterday denied bail after being charged with trafficking in cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis, to which they pleaded not guilty.

Justin Zahra and Wayne Pisani, both 22, were charged with trafficking after 12 packets of cocaine, 100 ecstasy pills and a kilogram of cannabis in four blocks and 21 pieces were allegedly found in their apartment in Sliema on Friday.

Their lawyer, José Herrera, pointed out that his clients had cooperated with the police and asked that they be granted bail against a guarantee.

However, Inspector Pierre Grech objected on account of the gravity of the accusations and the possibility of relapsing.

He also pointed out the two were unemployed and both lived in the same apartment where the drugs were found. Inspector Grech added that Mr Zahra was awaiting judgment on similar charges and Mr Pisani was charged with vehicle theft.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima denied bail because of the gravity of the accusations and the possibility of relapsing.
