I refer to the letter by Jacqueline Spriggs titled ‘Louvain memorial’ (December 1).

A few years ago, I had written about a memorial monument at the entrance to the Barrakka Gardens in Valletta, on the right-hand side. However, I am not sure whether she is referring to this monument. It was restored but there should be more space where a person can stand to read the memorial slab. At times this is impossible because of the motorcycles and cars parked there.

Monuments are our jewels and they should therefore be clearly visible, especially to tourists and the loved ones of those mentioned or to whom the memorial is dedicated.

I wish some historian would write about the memorial at the Barrakka Gardens entrance.
