Valletta FC are to hold a testimonial match for talisman and club legend Gilbert Agius.

Agius made his debut for the Citizens aged 16 back in 1990. In a career spanning almost 20 years, he made more than 400 appearances for the club, winning player of the month 13 times.

He made his international debut aged 19 back in 1993, in a game Malta won 2-1 against Gabon. In October 2011 he reached 100 appearances for the national side, and received a commemorative UEFA medal in recognition of this.

After a stint as assistant manager of Valletta in 2012, he came out of retirement to play for Gozitan side Xewkija Tigers. He then returned to his hometown club as coach for one season, before returning to the assistant coach role for the 2015-16 season, helping head coach Paul Zammit lead the Citizens to the title.

The club will play Whitegate Utd for his testimonial match.  The game will be held at the Luxol Sports Ground on 4 June, with the game starting at 5.30pm. Tickets are €5 and can be bought from L-Amerikan on Republic Street, Valletta. Proceeds will be donated to the Hospice Movement.
