A vehicle rebuilt from scratch in Malta will take part in one of the most gruelling rallies around the world, and raise funds for two charities in the process. 

Four Maltese men will take part in the 24,000 kilometre Mongol Rally in summer, starting in the UK and ending all the way in Mongolia. Over a span of two months, they will go through 25 countries.

The car is being assembled.

They will travel in a Maruti Omni 800 that was destined for the scrap heap.

The so-called Lapazz Team, made up of Daniel Debono, Ryan Farrugia, Aaron Azzopardi and Jude Sciberras will be raising funds for Cool Earth, an environmental charity that works in partnership with indigenous communities to protect rainforests, as well as Puttinu Cares, the charity that helps sick Maltese persons that need long-term accommodation in London.

The rally thunders miles across the mountains and desert of Europe and Asia each summer. There is no backup, no support and no set route; just the team, and other fellow adventurers and a small 800cc car bought from a scrapyard and rebuilt.

The team is asking for donations - in kind or monetary - in aid of the charity.
