Anthony J. Vella was sworn in as magistrate by President Guido de Marco at the Palace, Valletta, yesterday.

Dr Vella was born on December, 8, 1965 and was educated at Stella Maris School, St Aloysius College and the University of Malta from where he graduated as Doctor of Laws in 1991.

He served as president of the Students of Law Association and represented law students on the Faculty of Law Board between 1988 and 1990.

In 1997 Dr Vella obtained a BA degree in philosophy and theology and a MA degree in financial services two years later.

He served as president of the Kommunitajiet Hajja Nisranija (Christian Life Communities) between 1999 and 2002 and has been a committee member of the Chamber of Advocates since 1998, an associate with Advocates Vella and Associates between 1999 and 2002 and partner with GVTH Advocates since 2000.

Dr Vella is married to Alison Salt and they have a son, Giuseppe. He has been the driving force behind the popular fund-raising Voices choir, who hold a concert every two years.
