Chris Bonett will be challenging Bjorn Vassallo for the MFA presidential seat after the former MFA vice-president announced that he will also be contesting the election during next month's Annual General Meeting.
Earlier today, former MFA general secretary Bjorn Vassallo announced that he will submit his candidacy for the top job at the Malta FA after current incumbent Norman Darmanin Demajo ends his nine-year term at the helm of the local governing body of football.
On Wednesday evening it was the turn of Bonett to announce his intention to bid for the role of MFA president in a video posted on his facebook timeline.
"It's time that we open a new chapter in Maltese football," Bonett said in his video.
"It's time when the Malta FA tranforms itself into a transparent and modern governing body that follows financial principles.
"It's time for our children to be given the opportunity to aspire to practice football on a professional basis and are able to fulfil their dreams of having a glorious playing career.
"It's time that our national team starts providing entertainment to the Malta fans. On the other hand, it's time for our clubs to be given the required tools to have a professional administration, give us exciting league chances and to be able to start winning in UEFA club competitions.
"I will be doing all I can to ensure that this dream comes to reality and after consulting the Maltese football family and my team I have decided to contest the MFA presidential elections on July 20.
"In the coming weeks, I will be unveiling my long-term plans so that with the collaboration of my closest allies I will be able to introduce these changes that will put Maltese club at the top of the football agenda."
Bonett has already been in the MFA administration during Darmanin Demajo's spell as president where he filled the position of vice-president and was also in charge of the MFA Legal office.
After leaving the MFA, Bonett spent eight months as an Integrity Officer at UEFA.
