A Brazilian filmmaker captivated by the crumbling remains of Marsacala's Jerma Palace Hotel has turned his intrigue into a short visual story.

Will Pelizzari's two-and-a-half minute clip shows just how dilapidated the hotel, which shut its doors in March 2007, has become.

A dusty, ripped up suitcase lies abandoned in the hall, mosaiced walls are covered in graffiti and the remains of what was once a sofa gathers dust. A ceiling fan eerily whirs around in the summer breeze.

"When I first arrived in Marsaskala, I was walking around and I saw this huge abandoned building," Mr Pelizzari said. "I thought that was a great opportunity to create some kind of story, or even better, produce a video that let the audience imagine their own story."

Mr Pelizzari, who uses a Flycam system to capture smooth panning shots, said wind made filming especially tricky. "But in the end I got the shots I wanted," he added.

Although the film provides viewers with a different perspective to the hotel, Marsaskala local councillors are unlikely to be impressed: just last month, the local council called on the Planning Authority to demolish the hotel ruins, saying they were a danger to public safety.
