A Naxxar local councillor dug into his own pocket to see public toilets reopened for the public after a search for contractors came up dry.

Mayor Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami (PN) told Times of Malta that councillor Marlon Brincat (PL) had decided to get his own construction company to help with works for the bathrooms – free of charge.

Ms Muscat Fenech Adami said that after fixing the public playing fields and park on Labour Avenue last year, the council had been forced to install portable toilets as they could not find any contractors willing to take on the works to get the existing bathrooms up and running.

“The drains had been stuck due to damage caused by tree roots and we had a big problem of drainage in the area. There was quite a bit of work that needed to be done and thankfully, Marlon [Brincat] came up with the idea of doing it through his own company for free,” she said.

“We work as a team in this council – even though he comes from the Labour Party and myself from the Nationalist Party, we don’t let these things get between us,” she said.
