‘What I do matters… to me, to you, to the poor’ was the theme of a week-long series of awareness-building activities and hands-on action at St Aloysius’ College Primary, Balzan, on how pupils can make a difference to the local and global environment.

During the activities each class focused on some of the countries most affected by climate change. Besides learning about the countries’ beautiful aspects, the pupils became aware of the causes of poverty and environmental degradation in different parts of the world. The pupils also discussed what individual actions could affect life in each country in a positive or negative way, and every pupil’s environmentally-friendly proposed action was recorded.

Another activity focused on the negative effects on the use of plastic.

As a result of the week, the children learnt how what is done here and now matters for the environment, and will have positive or negative effects both locally and globally, now and for future generations.

The week of activities was organised by the college primary school chaplaincy in collaboration with the Eco-School team.
