A 38-year old worker who lives in St Paul's Bay died after falling seven storeys in Marsascala on Wednesday morning.
Police were called to the building site at Triq il-Qrampuc, Wied il-Għajn at 8am.
"The District Police immediately went to the scene and a preliminary investigation found that an Albanian fell about seven storeys into a shaft while working," police said.
Members from the Department of Civil Protection and a medical team were called in to assist but the man was pronounced dead on the site.
Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is heading an inquiry and police are investigating.
It is the second fatal accident on a construction site this year. In February, another worker died, also in a multi-storey fall at a different site in Marsascala.
Last month a worker also died in Gozo, when the roof of a public toilet collapsed on him as he was carrying out maintenance.
