YMCA has been chosen by the Malta Freeport’s welfare committee as this year’s recipient of its annual charitable donation.

YMCA manages a shelter round-the-clock at its Dar Niki Cassar Home in Msida, which houses some 30 homeless individuals per night as well as providing longer-term accommodation for those in need.

The organisation assists people who are experiencing homelessness and offers support so they may once again become self-sufficient and return to independent living. YMCA also provides psychotherapeutic services free of charge for those who cannot afford private consultations.

YMCA events and fundraising officer Julian Holland said the Freeport’s decision to direct funding towards homelessness is a huge boost for the organisation, which is constantly appealing for funds to support its valuable services.

Malta Freeport Terminals Welfare committee chairman Jurgen Darmanin said: “We are delighted to be making a contribution to such a worthy case and hope that it will help awareness about a problem that often goes unnoticed in our community.”
