2008 UEFA Cup champions Zenit St Petersburg were surprisingly eliminated from the Europa League yesterday after they only managed a 1-1 draw with Portuguese side Nacional.

The Russians had trailed 4-3 from the first leg but looked to be on course for the next stage when Fatih Tekke gave them a 34th-minute lead to level the tie on aggregate, but with a key advantage in terms of away goals.

However, with just a minute left to play, Ruben Micael scored to put the Portuguese side through.

Russia's woes continued when Dinamo Moscow lost 2-1 at home to CSKA Sofia having held the Bulgarians to a 0-0 draw in the first leg.
