Work on the regeneration of the Zewwieqa promenade in Mgarr Harbour, Gozo, is well under way, the Gozo Ministry said today.

The work involves the paving of a square near the restaurants, the building of a new paved promenade, visitor facilities and a car park for 70 cars.

The EU is covering 85% of the €5m cost.

The ministry said the project covers an area of 18,000 square metres, with a 700-metre stretch along the coast.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said the Zewwieqa Waterfront will complement earlier work on the passenger terminal in Mgarr harbour.

The project has reserved space where the only surviving Latini boat will be displayed.

Remaining works include new sanitary facilities, completion of surfacing works in the car park, building of rubble walls, installation of lighting and street furniture, and paving of some areas.
