Zucchero fans have packed the MFCC at Ta' Qali despite searing August heat as the Italian rock star entertains locals as part of his Black Cat world tour.

Many in the audience resorted to hand fans in an attempt to keep cool, only pausing to clap or rock to the music.

Heat notwithstanding, the audience keenly danced as Zucchero belted out some of his most popular tunes, taking the singer at his word when he told them "You are authorised to stand up and dance."

INTERVIEW: 'Very little shocks people these days'

Zucchero's latest album sees the Italian star tackle some sombre themes, with the musician having described his new material as "darker and rougher" than some of his previous work.

In an exclusive interview with Times of Malta published last week, the singer said he hoped his new songs would help people draw on compassion in their hearts.

This is Zucchero's third show in Malta, with the singer having performed in Malta in 2011 and again two years later during the Joseph Calleja annual concert.

The Black Cat tour has seen Zucchero perform across Europe, including sold-out shows at London's Royal Albert Hall.
