Marsaxlokk have been demoted to Division One and fined 4,000 euros after former club official Peter Hartshorne was found guilty of offering a bribe to a player of Msida St Joseph.

The case dates back to November 23.

The Malta Football Association Board to Investigate Corrupt Practices handed Mr Hartshorne a life ban from all football activities.

Together with former Marsaxlokk player Claude Mattocks, Mr Hartshorne had pleaded guilty in Court to trying to bribe Msida goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri before a Premier League match.

Both Mr Hartshorne and Mr Mattocks were given suspended sentences and a fine.

Last month Vittoriosa Stars were also demoted from the Premier League to Division One over a similar corruption case.
